A downloadable game for Android

This VR Escape Room game was created by Danny Huang and Johnny Sheng. It is designed to run on Quest devices.

In the game:

Your father used to be a high school teacher and loved books. Suddenly, he disappeared out of nowhere. You start the game in your father's bedroom, and curious enough, you decide to pick up one of his books and place it on his old desk...

Your goal is to escape... Good luck!

Development Process (WARNING: only read this after you've played the game unless you want spoilers):

The development process was filled with challenges. The scene of the abandoned highschool had a lot of lighting, shaders, and prefabs which makes the overall game huge to build. Designing the flashlight that allowed the user to hold while projecting light into a baked environment was fun but also challenging. The key-pads were not difficult to make with logics such as displaying 'access denied' when the wrong passcode is entered, an auto reset time, and an animator trigger linked to the door that the player needs to unlock. The game also has a pause UI panel that spawns in front of the user's camera every time if they want to pause the game, which is a pretty good way of designing a responsive UI in VR (via anchroing to the main camera object). The book puzzle was difficult to make, especially the logic of sockets and getting the game to recognize the socket positions. We used IDs for the books and the book sockets to determine whether the player arranged the books correctly or not. The jump scare animation was not hard to make, but we had to arrange it so that it plays instantly after the book puzzle is solved, then the prefab disappears, followed by the final hint that tells the player to head upstaris along side the looping voice of the final key code. Overall, it's a super fun project, and please give any feedback you guys have!

Possible future revisions:

- Make the jump scare character actually chase you around

The three questions we wanted to know were:

1. If the process of exploration was intuitive.

2. If the puzzles matched the environment.

3. Most difficult or confusing interaction that was not intuitive to figure out eventually.

From the feedback, most people found the game play intuitive after they understood what type of puzzles it was from the first time they solved it. Another revision would be to make the text appear after each action that way it wouldnt confuse them if they were to see it before it needed to be found. People enjoyed the jumpscare as in it worked. but when we whispered hurry before he catches you, it worked 100x better. That might be a good revision to have them slowly follow you and approach you. There were also some people that wanted the flashlight to be brighter so that they are not as confused to where they are heading.
